Cambridge South location announcement

The new station is proposed to be located adjacent to the Guided Busway, corresponding with Option 1 presented to the public. The chosen location follows a review of engineering and design information together with the results of a public consultation.

The station will also provide direct access to a range of potential routes on the rail network for those in South Cambridgeshire and better connections across the southern fringe of the city.

Network Rail was asked to consider the impact a new station would have on both the environment and businesses on the east side of the railway, as well as to consider enhancing connections for sustainable travel methods including walking, cycling and public transport.

These concerns will continue to be considered during the next phases. Subject to gaining consent, work could start on the station in 2023 and it is estimated to open in 2025.
