Long awaited Comberton Pond renewal

The Parish Council have awarded a contract to AGA Group  – they specialise in natural habitats – to revitalise our dried out village pond.

They will be removing the island, dredging the silt, deepening the pond, removing the plants,  repairing the brick work and then adding plants at the end of the project.

It is not being re-lined.

Work will commence on the village pond on Monday 25th July and is expected to last three weeks. During that timeframe the area around the village pond will be inaccessible, protected by  fencing. Residents should take care around the site, particularly when contractor vehicles are moving around the site.

This work has been funded by a £10k grant from the The National Lottery Community Fund (championed by Claire Coulson and the CPC Pond Working Group) and two pre-allocated budget amounts from last years and this years CPC budgets (i.e. from residents precept).

Ten years ago the pond looked like this – albeit just after the flash flooding event that week in July 2012.

POSTPONED -EWR open feedback events around Comberton – no new information on routes etc

You will be aware that a Red Extreme heat warning(External link) has been issued by the Met Office ahead of expected 40 degree temperatures on Monday & Tuesday this week in Cambridgeshire.

Given the potential risk the extreme heat poses to staff and guests, the EWR drop-in information event scheduled in Haslingfield for Tuesday 19th July will be postponed. They do not have a firm date yet and are talking to the venue and with their team. However, they are aiming for a date in the week of the 25th, with a current preference being Friday the 29th. I will keep you updated and circulate a confirmed date as soon as I have it.

Beth West – the East West Railway Company (EWR Co)’s new Chief Executive – invites people living and working in communities between Oxford and Cambridge to meet the team at a series of drop-in events.

The events, which will take place in June and July, will help residents understand how East West Rail (EWR) is progressing and provide opportunities to meet the EWR Co team face-to-face. The sessions are open to everyone, with events located in Bicester, Bletchley, Cambourne, Cambridge, Haslingfield, Hauxton, Lidlington,  Oxford, and  Woburn Sands.

Members from the EWR Co team will be on hand at the events to talk about any aspect of the project, illustrated with plans, maps and other information, as well as talking about likely next steps for the project.

Event overview

The drop-in events are designed to provide you with a chance to meet and speak to members of the project team.

They’re still in the process of reviewing the feedback received during the second Non-Statutory Consultation and so do not have any new information to provide now, the want to listen to your views and will offer as much information as possible at this stage.

ADDENDUM 12th July

Cambridge Approaches are encouraging residents  to take 10-15 minutes from their schedule to attend, ask questions etc.

Soon there will be a leaflet distributed to households with summary points to help people frame some key questions. Please contact @ and @ if you can help to distribute the leaflets in Comberton by door-drop.

EWR will be passing through much of South Cambs including Comberton so we’d like to make sure the leaflets can be circulated to give Comberton residents an opportunity to attend the engagement meeting.

Members from the EWR Co team will be on hand at the events to talk about any aspect of the project, illustrated with plans, maps and other information, as well as talking about likely next steps for the project. East West Rail link to Haslingfield drop-in-event. You do not need to register for EWR drop-ins.
